What Is Sublimation?

Sublimation printing is a technique that uses heat to transfer dye onto materials such as fabric, ceramics, or metal, producing vivid and durable designs. Unlike traditional printing methods, it enables full-color, high-quality images that bond with the material itself, making them resistant to fading and wear. This method relies on a distinctive chemical process.

Sublimation printing is a popular method for creating vibrant, long-lasting designs on a wide variety of products, from t-shirts and mugs to phone cases and home décor. Unlike traditional printing techniques, sublimation uses heat and pressure to transfer dye directly into the material, resulting in prints that won’t crack, peel, or fade over time.

Sublimation is a unique chemical printing process. It is a physical process where a substance changes directly from a solid to a gas without passing through the liquid phase. This happens under specific temperature and pressure conditions. A common example is dry ice (solid carbon dioxide) turning into gas.

How the Sublimation Process Works
  • A solid dye is heated.
  • The dye turns into a gas (sublimates).
  • The gas penetrates the surface of a material (usually polyester or coated items).
  • When it cools, it solidifies inside the material—creating a permanent, high-quality image.
Steps to Produce Sublimation Printing

Preparation Stage

  1. Select Pre-Designed, AI, or Create Your Own Design (your part)
    • Use our pre-designed designs available,
    • Use third party pre-designed designs such as Design Bundles,
    • Use AI, or
    • Use software like Adobe Illustrator or Photoshop.
    • Set correct dimensions, resolution 300 DPI, and pixel settings per item requirements.

Production Stage 

  1. Print the Design (our part)
    • Use a sublimation printer
    • Print onto special sublimation transfer paper using sublimation ink.
  2. Prepare the Substrate (your part)
    • Choose compatible materials:
      • Polyester fabrics
      • Polymer-coated items (mugs, phone cases, metal panels)
      • Ensure the surface is clean and dry.
  3. Transfer with Heat Press (your part)
    • Place the printed paper onto the material.
  4. Use a Heat Press (your part but settings determined by us).
    • Apply even pressure.
  5. Sublimation Reaction
    • Heat converts the ink into gas.
    • The gas bonds with the material at a molecular level.
  6. Cooling and Finishing (your part)
    • Remove the paper carefully.
    • Let the item cool.

The design becomes permanent—no cracking, peeling, or fading easily.
